Ni Hao everyone! I am actually in China now! This has been an extremely long week for me. On Tuesday I got to LA. On Wednesday at 11pm I took a 13 hour plane trip to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong we had a 5-hour layover, and then we took a 4-hour flight to Beijing. So that's about 24 hours! It was so long. Now I am in Beijing at a hotel with the other exchange students from all over the world who are going to China as well. There are kids from Italy, Thailand, Japan, Germany, Holland, Finland, South America, Spain, and Portugal here. The Italians are probably the craziest out of the bunch. Yesterday we had a long orientation, and then we got to go to the Great Wall of China! That was really amazing. It's very big, and once I get better internet I will put up pictures I have taken.
Then we went out the dinner and that was super good. When you eat Chinese food you take a little of everything. It feels like you are eating so much and you feel fat, but that's not really happening! Today we had a very boring orientation, and then I had the rest of the day free to do whatever I wanted because everyone was traveling to their host cities today. I leave tonight at 6:30pm.
So, here are some things that I have seen or experienced that are weird or cool:
1. Men pull up their shirts over their stomachs when it is hot out. In America, girls do that, not men over 40.
2. In Beijing, there are huge bulletin boards that pose as fences that advertise fancy hotels and resorts, to hide the really run-down and poor houses and properties.
3. I haven't seen blue sky in 3 days because of all of the pollution here in Beijing. Hopefully it's a little better in Nanjing.
4. There are little dogs all over the place, but I haven't seen a big dog yet. The little ones just run wild I think.
5. The sun is red in the mornings, and so pretty. I have some amazing pictures I will put up later.
6. There are lots of Cicada bugs in the trees here, and they are SO loud.
That is all I can think of right now but I will post again soon!
